Marketplace advertising agency

Sponsored listings run on the numbers that matter: listing quality first, search terms harvested, bids set from margin after marketplace fees.

Marketplace advertising agency: product mock-up of various business items creating a scene upon which to drop your logo and designs to showcase how a brand is generated for your clients for ma.

Who it's for

  • Brands selling on a marketplace and on their own store at the same time
  • Sellers whose sponsored spend has grown while profit has not
  • Catalogues where a few listings carry the account and the rest are ignored
  • Sellers expanding a proven range onto a second marketplace

Marketplace ads sit on top of a listing, and the listing decides most of what happens. If the title is vague, the images do not show scale, the key attribute is missing or the reviews are thin, advertising only buys expensive traffic for a page that was going to lose anyway. So the first work is nearly always merchandising rather than bidding.

After that the mechanics are familiar and the arithmetic is not. Every marketplace order carries a referral fee, often a fulfilment fee, sometimes a storage or return cost. A cost per order that looks fine in the ad console can be losing money once those come out, so we work in contribution after fees rather than in advertising cost alone.

We run campaigns that keep defending your own brand name separate from finding new buyers, harvest search terms into deliberate keyword lists instead of leaving everything to automation, and watch stock and listing eligibility because an ad pointing at an unavailable item is money leaving the building.

We work with brands that also run their own store, because the plan covers all four levers and a marketplace can only carry two of them.

The lever here is visitors. Everything we would run, and the base fee plus growth share to run it, is scoped in the free plan first.

How we run it

The honest process, in order.

  1. Fix the listing before buying a click on it

We go through the listings you intend to advertise: title structure, the bullet points or key features, the attribute fields the marketplace uses for filtering, images that show the product in use and against something for scale, the variant relationships, and the questions buyers keep asking in reviews. Advertising a weak listing is the fastest way to spend a budget with nothing to show. Where a listing cannot be made competitive, we say so and leave it out of the plan rather than bidding on it.

  2. Let search terms build the keyword lists

Automatic targeting is useful as a research tool and expensive as a permanent strategy. We run it deliberately, read the search term report on a schedule, and promote the terms that convert into their own targeted campaigns with their own bids. Terms that spend without converting become negatives. Over a few months the account moves from mostly automatic to mostly deliberate, and the automatic campaigns keep running on a small budget purely to keep finding new terms.

  3. Separate defending your brand from finding new buyers

Ads on your own brand name and ads on generic category terms do different jobs and should never share a budget. Brand terms are cheap, convert well and mostly reach people already looking for you, which flatters the account average. Category terms cost more and bring people who did not know you existed. We split them, set different targets for each, and report them separately, so nobody mistakes defending a position for growth.

  4. Set bids from contribution after marketplace fees

The console reports advertising cost against advertising revenue, which ignores everything the marketplace takes. We build a per-product figure that starts from the sale price and subtracts the referral fee, fulfilment, returns provision and cost of goods. What is left is what the advertising can spend against. Products with almost nothing left get a low ceiling or no advertising at all, and products with room get the budget. It is the same principle as any other channel, with more fees in the middle.

  5. Watch stock and listing eligibility daily

Marketplace ads stop or waste money for reasons outside the ad console. An item goes out of stock, a listing loses its eligibility to be featured, a variant gets suppressed for a missing attribute, or a pricing rule pushes you out of the buy position. We check those daily on the advertised range, pause spend on anything that has become unbuyable, and restart when it is fixed. Half the wasted spend in most accounts is here rather than in the bids.

  6. Read the marketplace next to your own store

The two channels affect each other and are usually reported apart. We look at them together each month: what a marketplace order is worth after fees against what a direct order is worth, whether marketplace demand rises when you advertise elsewhere, and which products are better sold direct because the margin cannot survive the fees. Sometimes the honest recommendation is to advertise a product on one channel and not the other.

Worked example, not a result

Example: the fee that turns a good number bad

Say a product sells for $50 on a marketplace. The goods cost $18. The referral fee is $8 and fulfilment is $6, so before advertising the contribution is $18.

The ad console shows a campaign spending $6 per order, which reads as a comfortable cost of sale on a $50 item. After fees the real contribution falls to $12, and once returns and storage are provisioned it is closer to $9. That is still positive, so the campaign stays, but the ceiling is now visible.

A second product with a $30 price and the same fee structure would be losing money at the same $6. Same account, same report, opposite decision. Round made-up numbers, used to show why fees belong in the bid.

Questions about marketplace advertising agency

No. The growth plan covers all four numbers behind revenue, and a marketplace hands you the customer relationship, the email address and the repeat purchase mechanics only partially or not at all. If you have your own store as well, we can include marketplace advertising in the plan. If the marketplace is the whole business, we are not the right fit and will say so at the first conversation.

The one where your listings already convert without ads. Advertising amplifies whatever the listing does naturally, so a channel where organic sales are steady is a much safer place to add budget than one where you have never sold. Where you are established on more than one, the deciding factor is usually which one takes less in fees for your particular price point.

It comes out of your own margin rather than from a rule of thumb. Work out what is left after cost of goods, referral fees, fulfilment and a provision for returns, then decide how much of that you are willing to spend to win a customer, allowing for whether they are likely to buy again. Two products in the same catalogue can justify very different figures.

Sometimes, indirectly. People who discover a brand on a marketplace do search for it afterwards, and that shows up as branded search rather than as anything the ad console can claim. We watch branded search and direct traffic alongside the campaigns so the effect is at least visible. We would not fund a marketplace campaign on that basis alone.

You do. We work through access granted from your seller account, and everything, including the campaign history and the search term data, stays with you if we stop working together. We do not run marketplace advertising through an account we control.
